Kouncel, an Egyptian legal ed-tech startup, has raised a pre-seed funding round of US$1.2 million to help it grow.
Zaldi Capital, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Academy for Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), and the Egyptian entrepreneurship development initiative Tanmia wa Tatweer participated in the fundraising round, which will be used to expand the startup’s user base in Egypt and the MENA region.
Online video education platform Kouncel was founded by Ibrahim Saleh and offers courses on areas such as arbitration, legal drafting, and intellectual property based on several jurisdictions.
As an online platform for legal education, Kouncel aims to deliver modern learning to lawyers and businesses in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Legal Drafting, Intellectual Property, Banking, and Non-Banking Law, and Law for Startups are just a few of the courses available on the platform.
Weekly learning sequences are used for each subject.
In each learning sequence, short films are interwoven with interactive learning exercises, which allow students to quickly apply the concepts they’ve learned.
As part of Egypt’s Economic Vision 2030, “education is a key component,” Saleh said. “Law plays an important role in creating healthy environments for businesses and promoting FDIs, and we aim to provide a highly sophisticated education experience to everyone in the legal field that will positively impact the ecosystem,” he said.
Approximately $280,000 of the funds raised will be paid out in cash, with the remainder coming in the form of in-kind services.
