The ChatGPT chatbot’s creator, OpenAI, has completed a $300 million share sale at a $27 billion to $29 billion valuation.
Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, Thrive, and K2 Global, among other Venture Capital companies have reportedly purchased new shares.
To be clear, this is in addition to Microsoft’s massive investment disclosed earlier this year, the sum of which is reported to be approximately $10 billion.
Recent sources indicate that ChatGPT has surpassed one hundred million monthly active users.
In addition to ChatGPT, OpenAI released updates for their AI-based image generator DALL-E, a speech recognition model called Whisper AI, and GPT-4.
More than 30 percent of OpenAI is owned by outside investors.
Over $18 billion has been raised by AI startups in under six months, putting them on track to surpass the $41 billion raised by the industry in 2022.
