Seamfix, a global provider of digital identity solutions, has raised $4.5 million in a private equity funding round from Alitheia IDF, a gender lens investing fund, to expand the technology infrastructure supporting its solutions, enhance data flow that is essential for continental trade and integration, and begin rolling out its digital ID and credential services into five additional African nations.

Seamfix, which was founded in Nigeria, offers large organisations and government agencies in several African nations options for identity generation, verification, and transaction accreditation.

Seamfix has been in the forefront of providing end-to-end digital ID and credentials solutions for connecting organisations and individuals to the many identity databases in Africa and throughout the world since its founding by Chimezie Emewulu and Chibuzor Onwurah.

In order to help them and their customers worldwide create, verify, and access trusted digital identities and services, the company has provided a wide range of solutions for businesses including Veremark, Nigeria’s National Identity Management Commission [NIMC], telcos (MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9 Mobile), financial institutions (United Bank for Africa, Interswitch, and Union Bank), and more.

One of Seamfix’s most notable accomplishments is the creation of an effective digital solution that gives over 100 million Nigerians extensive access to National Identity Numbers (NINs).

In order to comply with Nigerian Communications Commission rules, Seamfix also assisted Nigerian telecoms service providers in registering and validating a database of more than 200 million Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs).

Major telecom companies in Africa (Nigeria, Côte D’Ivoire, Liberia, Sudan, Guinea-Bissau, and other countries) presently entrust Seamfix with their SIM registration, verification, and national identity linking. Seamfix’s verification APIs are used by thousands of fintechs and SMEs for background checks on new hires and KYC checks during customer onboarding.

“Chimezie Emewulu, Group CEO, and co-founder of Seamfix, said “We are thrilled to announce this new funding, which marks a significant milestone in our journey of shaping the future of digital ID verification in Africa and connecting Africa to the rest of the world. Digital identity is a right – not a privilege – and this belief underpins our innovation and commitment to enabling individuals and businesses in Africa to access all the benefits that come with having verifiable identities.  This investment not only validates our vision but also empowers us to expand our reach and innovate further. We are thankful for the support from Alitheia IDF and their commitment to our mission, and we are excited to lead the charge in shaping a digitally inclusive Africa.”

The company will be able to extend its services to Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Uganda thanks to the additional funding, which marks Seamfix’s first institutional investment.
