Smartprof, an edtech startup based in Morocco that provides a marketplace for private tutoring for school-aged pupils, has raised $110,000 in a pre-Seed funding round.

Participating in the investment round were Plug and Play, UM6P Ventures, and a few angel investors.

Founded in 2021 by Hamza, Mustapha, and Ali Faouiz, SmartProf aspires to create a one-stop edtech platform for private tuition in North and West Africa, a market that the business estimates to be worth billions of dollars.

“After observing that Morocco’s private educational system was collapsing, we founded Smartprof. We were certain that every student need some form of individual support to get over the difficulties they encountered in the classroom. Finding a tutor is a problem due to the highly fragmented private tutoring market. A digital tool that delivers an excellent teaching experience was really needed because there is also no awareness of cost, according to Faiz.

Startups in the region have been working to digitize the private tutoring experience in order to meet the growing demand and close the achievement gap for families and kids who rely on this sort of instruction.

With the additional funding, Smartprof plans to increase its presence in Morocco and West Africa and recruit more developers to raise the quality of its offerings.
