Honor unveiled the latest V40 5G flagship handset, the first since Huawei sold the company to a consortium of Chinese partners based in Shenzhen. For now, the phone is exclusive to China, but under the “View” branding, Honor’s V-series typically finds its way to the rest of the world.
The V40 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor and has a 6.72-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The main camera has a 50-megapixel 1/1.56-inch sensor. It is possible to charge the 4,000mAh battery wirelessly at 50W or with a cable at 66W.
Of course, the V40 phones have been in production since earlier than November, but now that Huawei has divested itself of Honor, it might be possible to ship the international ‘View 40’ edition of the V40 with Google services on board.
Without the enormous drawback of having to rely on Huawei’s AppGallery, which still can’t compete with Google’s Play Store outside of China, where Google has no presence, this would allow Honor to sell phones in Western markets and beyond.
For now, for a model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, it is available in China with prices starting at 3,599 yuan (~$550). 3,999 yuan (~$620) doubles the amount of memory to 256GB.
