Sony has now sold over ten million PlayStation 5 (PS5) consoles.
This is up from Sony’s prior estimate of 7.8 million sales in April, indicating that the PS5 continues to outsell the PS4, making it the company’s fastest-selling console ever.
Although the PS5 is doing well, availability is limited, and purchasing a console is still difficult due to a global chip scarcity. “While PS5 has entered more homes faster than any of our prior systems, we still have a long way to go as demand continues to surpass supply,” says Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “I want gamers to know that, while we continue to confront unique issues around the world that affect our sector and many others, SIE remains committed to improving inventory levels.”
Sony also announced certain PS5 launch game milestones. Since its release in November, Spider-Man: Miles Morales has sold over 6.5 million copies, while Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has sold over 1.1 million copies since its release last month. Since its April release, Returnal has sold over 560,000 copies.
