AURA, a South Africa security and medical response network, has announced its impending expansion into Kenya, which will be led by Hilary Itela, the company’s new General Manager.

Aura will provide emergency and medical response services in Nairobi and Mombasa in collaboration with KK Security, which is operated by GardaWorld.

According to Warren Myers, CEO of AURA, the aim is to resolve Kenya’s fragmented and idle response capability while also democratizing access to essential services by making them more widely accessible and affordable than ever before.

Itela has over 15 years of experience in various management positions in East and Central Africa, and he brings a wealth of specialist expertise in a range of verticals such as defense, e-commerce, logistics, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, and renewable energy.

In addition to collaborating closely with Kenyan partners to create a broad and efficient network, Itela will be in charge of expanding the AURA business footprint across the area to ensure that smart security solutions are accessible to all.

“I am excited to build a company that will contribute to the safety and protection of the world while also creating job opportunities that will positively affect the economies in which we operate,” he says.

“We are delighted to have someone of Itela’s calibre join our team as we explore the many interesting opportunities within the East African market,” Myers says of AURA’s East African expansion and Hilary Itela’s appointment as General Manager.

Kenya has a robust, but fragmented, private security and emergency medical services industry.

It is an excellent opportunity for AURA to establish an effective and efficient response network. Kenya, like South Africa, suffers from significant crime issues, especially road safety, street crime, home invasions, burglaries, and carjackings.

With a high smartphone penetration rate, we are able to provide our users with inexpensive and accessible on-demand security and medical response, assisting in the safety of those in those areas.”

AURA will concentrate on more geographic expansion in regions with similar inefficiencies to South Africa in 2021.
