The University of Cape Town (UCT) online school has been recognized for its revolutionary educational innovations, having been named one of the 12 Top Innovators in The WorldClass Education Challenge at the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Development Impact Summit 2021.
The WorldClass Education Challenge debuted in May of this year on the World Economic Forum’s UpLink platform — a digital platform for crowdsourcing solutions to the world’s most pressing concerns, as specified by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Twelve innovators were chosen from over 400 entries. Learnable, Nomad Education, StanLab, and the Pan-African Robotics Competition were among the Top Innovators in Africa, as were UCT Online High School and other game-changers in their respective industries.
“It is a great time for us to have the UCT Online High School receive this high worldwide distinction barely two months after its launch,” said UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng. We look forward to continuing our efforts to not just address some of the most important challenges on a continental and global scale, but also to ensure that more people have access to high-quality education.

We will continue to advance solutions through this Challenge, anchored firmly on our three pillars of excellence, transformation, and sustainability, a quest that is now expanded beyond our secondary school offering.”
The University of Cape Town became the first university on the African continent to expand its expertise and impact to the secondary schooling market through an innovative online modality when it launched this online high school.
