According to reports, Safaricom is in talks to provide M-PESA services in partnership with Amazon’s eCommerce platform.

This move is said to be part of the Kenyan telco’s efforts to rebound from a loss-making year.

“M-Pesa generates around a third of Safaricom’s revenue, and the East African giant sees the financial-technology product as a key to future development. The carrier has already established alliances with Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd. and PayPal Holdings Inc.”

According to sources, this isn’t the first time these two powerhouses have teamed up, “as the two both collaborate on online services, and the Kenyan firm manages Amazon’s cloud business.”
