M-Pesa Africa, a Safaricom subsidiary, has appointed Sitoyo Lopokoiyit as its new Managing Director.

Sitoyo Lopokoiyit is a “mobile financial services specialist who has directly controlled mobile money in two of the world’s largest markets – Kenya and Tanzania.

Lopokoiyit became the head of M-Pesa policy and business growth at Safaricom in 2011.

In 2016, he joined Vodacom Tanzania as director of m-commerce, before returning to Safaricom in 2018 as head of the financial services division and, most recently, as chief financial services officer.

Since April 2020, he has been the interim CEO of M-Pesa Africa.

He will be in charge of managing and increasing M-Pesa at Safaricom, which has over $1 billion in revenue and is growing by double digits in service revenue.
