With the year 2020 ending, the popular messenger application, WhatsApp, is set to initiate new updates that will prevent the app from functioning on millions of existing smartphones and devices from January 1st, 2021.
Android and iPhone device owners with older features will be forced to purchase new devices or update the existing operating systems of their mobile devices to continue enjoying access to WhatsApp messenger and its related services in the new year.
Android users need to be running a minimum of Android 4.0.3 (also known as Ice Cream sandwich) while iPhone users need to have an IOS 9 or higher to support WhatsApp.
This means that all iPhone models from iPhone 4 and below will be unable to support WhatsApp.
Users of higher models have till February 1, 2020, to update their existing operating systems for continued access to WhatsApp, after which exiting iPhones with an IOS 8 or lower will lose access to their account and will be unable to create a new one.
