European payment company; Adyen partnered Cellulant to provide payment solutions for international transfers in Africa. Adyen does not only facilitate transfers, they also handle the entire process to guarantee cybersecurity. This partnership strategically positions Adyen and Cellulant as international payment providers in Africa.

The duo are highly connected in their respective continents to conduct seamless transactions. Adyen is the official processor for international brands like eBay, Facebook, Netflix, Airbnb, Spotify, Uber, and Groupon. Cellulant, on the other hand, partners with Fintech providers in Africa, such as mPesa, Airtel Money, MTN money and Tigo Pesa. This partnership gives Adyen access to a whole new market comprising of mobile money operators, merchants and over 120 banks in Africa.

Cellulant’s Chief Business Officer for Global Payments, David Waithaka, expressed excitement about the partnership. The opportunity for growth is massive and this further opens Africa up to trade since the payments end is secure. He believes that now is the right time to invest in Africa.

This is surely a win-win situation for all parties. African consumers will now conveniently transact with global brands in local currencies in a variety of payment options. Global businesses from around the world will also expand their market reach to Africa. Adyen provides access to over 200 million potential customers and Cellulant is now better positioned as the go-to Fintech for international transactions in Africa.
