E-ID Card Payment in Nigeria to Commence 2022

It was announced on Thursday, January 31 by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) that come 2022, the payment for electronic national identity cards will commence.

The Nigerian e-ID card will add existing database into government institutions come 2022 as this will give room for Nigerians to own a multipurpose ID card and they will be used for identification, payment and other applications etc. in Nigeria.

Nigerians will be able to track their e-ID cards from any electronic medium through the NIMC site. Nigerians have been urged to take advantage of the opportunity and register. The USSD code – *346# can be used to retrieve the National Identity Number (NIN). All you have to do is dial the USSD and follow the on-screen prompt.

Aliyu Aziz, NIMC Director General, said: “Nations all over the world and in particular, developed countries have utilized identity as foundation to transforming governance and enhancing service delivery in the areas of healthcare, agriculture, voting, transportation, financial inclusion, access to basic service and welfare programs.”

He went further to give directives on how the e-ID cards can be tracked via the NIMC site “Open nimc.gov.ng tracking id center: https://touch.nimc.gov.ng/. Push the proceed button, fill in your first name and last name as well as your National Identification Number and click on the check now button. Wait for seconds while it is loading and the status of your NIMC card will appear on the display.”

“As a government, we recognize the huge importance of moving towards a digital government therefore, we must embrace and harness the potentials inherent in digital identity to build and develop our country” he added.
