Farmcrowdy Marks 2nd Year Anniversary with Launching of National Digital Agriculture Day

In commemoration of its second year anniversary, Nigeria’s first digital agriculture platform, Farmcrowdy has launched the first ever National Digital Agriculture Day. FarmCrowdy, which was launched in 2016 is a digital agriculture platform aimed at connecting farm sponsors with real farmers in order to increase food production.

It is a running practice for them to unveil something new at their anniversary. Last year, they launched their mobile app to provide an accessible, real-time platform for individuals that do not want to miss out on empowering their own communities.

Onyeka Akumah, Founder and CEO of Farmcrowdy told the TechGist Africa team that the National Digital Agriculture Day has been registered with the Ministry of Trademark and Patent, and the day has officially been reserved as a day to recognise the contributions of the agritech sector in the Nigerian agribusiness value chain.

Farmcrowdy also said the day will be used as a vehicle to highlight the essential role that agriculture plays in building and maintaining a strong economy and to encourage other players in the sector to participate in spreading the positive message about agriculture.

“We are equally pleased to see the recent spring of start-ups following in Farmcrowdy’s footsteps and are looking forward to utilising the National Digital Agriculture Day in Nigeria as a chance to join hands with other agritech start-ups on the path of breathing new life into agriculture, by supporting even more smallholder farmers and increasing food production not only in Nigeria, but across Africa.”

Onyeka Akumah also shared with TGA the good news of the start-up winning Best Agritech Solution for 2018 at the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards held in South Africa and so, the Agritech company of the year at the recently held Meet The Farmers Conference 2018 in Dubai.

In the journey of 2 years, Farmcrowdy has recorded over 7, 000 farmers across 10 states in Nigeria, reared over 1,000,000 broiler birds for its poultry farm cycles and recorded over 17,195 farm units, sponsored by more than 2,500 unique farm sponsors from Nigerians in Nigeria, the US, Canada and the UK.
