South African based self-insurance start-up, Franc Group has won the Seedstars Johannesburg pitch event. The fintech start-up established by CEO Thomas Brennan aims to give people access to low-cost passive investments.
Language learning platform, Uthini was placed second, while fintech start-up , Maxicash which is a financial support ecosystem built around remittance and payments was placed third.
Through the Franc app, customers can invest in either the money market and the stock market for only R5 per month with no minimum contribution required.

By winning Seedstars Johannesburg, Franc Group, along with Uthini and Maxicash, secured a place in the Seedstars South Africa Finals that will be held on 14 November at Seedspace Cape Town.
At the SA finals they will compete against Cape Town based start-ups, HouseMe, Slide Financial and Kuba as well as other competitors to become the country winner.
Seedstars World is a part of the Swiss group Seedstars and runs the global startup competition covering over 65 emerging and developing markets.
