Google to Roll Out its Free Wi-Fi Service, ‘Google Station’ in Abuja

After launching it’s free public Wi-Fi dubbed Google Station in Lagos, Google is set to expand the initiative to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city which will make it the second city in the nation.

During its launching in Lagos in July, Google announced that it partnered with Nigerian fiber cable network provider, 21st Century to roll out its public Wi-Fi service which is available in six places in the commercial capital, Lagos, including the city’s airport.

Google Station provides high quality, high-speed Wi-Fi hotspots and it also generates cash from the service in Nigeria by placing Google adverts in the login portal.

The Federal Capital Territory has already been included to the Google Station global map and it is expected to be unveiled during the next major Google event.  

Reports have it that Google Stations would be available in Abuja’s airport, shopping mall, Wuse Market and it will be in partnership with Backbone Connectivity Network, a broadband service provider.  

Also, in November, Nigerian Government requested for the extension of Google Station’s free WiFi services in markets.    

Nigeria is the fifth country to launch Google Station. Similar services have been launched in India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Thailand. The service is aimed at countries with rapidly expanding populations.
