Amazon took to their news platform on Wednesday to announce the acquisition of Wondery in a signed agreement by the company to join the Amazon Music platform as a boost to its podcast service offerings that launched in September 2020.
According to the Amazon team, “Together with Wondery, we will continue to bring more customers to streaming as we expand selection and ensure we are a destination for our customers to find, discover, and listen to the creators and artists they enjoy.
While details of the acquisition costs have not been disclosed by both parties, the deal is said to be very timely with the increasing move for dominance in the podcast space by tech bigshots like Apple and Spotify.
Wondery will be bringing its track record of innovative and educative podcasts including the top-rated including “Dirty John,” “Dr. Death,” “Business Wars,” and “The Shrink Next Door” on the Amazon audio platform, giving subscribers a wider selection of audio content alongside Audible and Amazon Music.
