WeWork, an American company that provides shared work spaces for tech startups has expanded to Cape Town, South Africa. This expansion is not the first time they will be expanding to South Africa. They already have an office in Johannesburg, and will be opening a second Johannesburg office.
The new Cape Town office will comprise four floors and it will be capable of housing 590 members. It will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2019. The second Johannesburg office will be capable of hosting 1,800 members and it will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Geoff Jennett, Chief Executive of Emira Property Fund said, “As co-owners, we are thrilled to provide WeWork with its first Cape Town location; they have chosen an excellent building in a great position in the heart of Cape Town CBD. The joint investment of Emira and Swish in the recent upgrade of the 80 Strand building has created an ideal home for WeWork and its members in the city, and will no doubt become a bustling hub for growing businesses in Cape Town”.
Patrick Nelson, head of WeWork’s real estate department in EMEA, said they are excited to announce the expansion, as Cape Town is a central point for entrepreneurs and large companies. He mentioned that Naspers plan to move into their first location.
