Apple Inc. has announced that eligible iPhone users would receive a $25 compensation for deliberately slowing down iPhones.
The iPhones had got into a similar issue back in 2017, where iPhone users accused Apple on updates that degraded the phone battery health. Consumers also have a thought that this is done so that people would purchase new iPhones.
Apple has acknowledged that the company did updates so that apps avoid the scenarios of unexpected shutdowns and crashes.
Apple also stated that anyone who owns an iPhone 6 or later versions before December 21, 2017, can submit diminishing performance claims by their phones. The settlement would be agreed and approved once the user accepts that he/she will not file an appeal in court.
The company estimates to compensate a sum worth $500 million in which some users could get less than $25 because of the enormous volume of claim redemptions.
The portal for filing claim is till October 6, 2020, and the payments would be processed after December 4, 2020, when the judge will sign off on the settlement, with the clause mentioned above.
