Ada, a Berlin-based health mobile application has launched a new version of its app in the Swahili language. The new version was launched to serve the East Africa market and provide localized health information to both patients and clinicians.
The East African region has been embattled with diverse health challenges, varying from maternal health issues, communicable diseases like STD and Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV.
Thus, the need to combat health challenges and communicate health solutions in local languages. This spurred Ada to develop the Swahili version.

Ada teamed up with the Muhimbi University of Health and Allied Science in Tanzania, and Swiss non-profit Foundation, Botnar to make the tool cultural and linguistically appropriate. The app will provide information about the diseases affecting East Africa.
Hila Azadzoy, Managing Director Ada Health noted that the localized app version was created to help people access health information using smartphones. Patients are expected to first input symptoms of their illness into the app. The information will be scrutinized and queried by the App, just like doctors diagnose diseases.
The app then uses the information provided by the patients to ascertain the disease and suggest the next steps to take by the patient.
The launch of the app in the Swahili language will not only make over 135 million speakers gain easy access to health information but also help reduce the mortality rate in this region.
