Exactly four years after its debut in West Africa, Boomplay music is extending its services to Francophone Africa.

Having successfully offered its services to millions in Anglophone Africa, the Chinese-owned music streaming platform is set to provide country and genre-specific playlists for French-speaking countries. It is currently striking deals with indigenous labels and industry players to curate a playlist that will be suitable for local listeners.

Besides the French-speaking countries in Africa, Boomplay looks to provide streaming services to African expatriates living in the US, Canada, and Europe.

Speaking about the development, Dele Kadiri, Bloomplay’s General Manager said that Boomplay is looking at Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire, as well as areas like North America and Europe with large diaspora communities. He also added that Boomplay has already added 2 million users a month to its service.

Boomplay is owned by Transsion Holdings, the makers of Infinix, Itel and Tecno phones for African consumers. Transsion produces its smartphones with preloaded Boomplay app which offers music streaming on a subscription base.  In April 2019, Boomplay secured $20 million to expand into more regions in Africa.
