Huawei Kenya, in partnership with several business partners, launched a graduate recruitment program through an online Huawei ICT Job Fair.

Joe Mucheru, Cabinet Secretary for ICT Innovation and Youth Affairs, Maureen Mbaka, Chief Administrative Secretary Maureen Mbaka, and Director for University Education and Research Darius Mogaka, representing the Ministry of Education and other industry players, were present at the gathering.

For the second year in a row, they practically arranged a job fair for employers to present their job vacancies to a pool of over 150 highly skilled ICT graduates.

Huawei is working to empower and equip Kenya with a professional workforce that can take advantage of new opportunities provided by emerging technologies, having previously collaborated with the Ajira program to train over 5,000 University students during the Covid19 pandemic.

Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru praised Huawei’s efforts, saying that they are critical in boosting Kenya’s ICT talent and the wider ecosystem that comes with it.

“Kenya’s rich human capital is an advantage that puts the country ahead regionally and brings us closer to being a knowledge-based economy,” he continued.

MFI Technologies, China Telecom, and Eastra Solutions Limited are among Huawei’s partners looking to recruit talented graduates who have been trained by Huawei’s academic partners and have earned Huawei’s internationally recognised certifications.

The Huawei ICT Academy has already partnered with over 40 universities to provide students with training and certifications in emerging technologies such as 5G mobile networks, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Cloud, thus enhancing their skill set and employability.

Kenyans will be able to apply for over 30 jobs and internships as part of Huawei’s 2021 graduate recruitment program. Will Meng, Huawei’s CEO, addressed the country’s youth unemployment issue, saying, “With the emerging technology, we need to make sure that as employers, we continue to transition skills to lecturers and students so that they are prepared for these jobs.”
