Guess what? The Egyptian government has partnered with Facebook to draft a new tax law for social media advertisements and digital services. This move aligns with the tax law review process embarked on by the Egyptian Ministry of Finance, as well as the ministry’s previous announcement on the introduction of social media tax. What do you think?
AI is the new cool! The Republic of Uganda has partnered with Huawei to launch a facial recognition surveillance system. The system will leverage AI (artificial intelligence) to recognize and record the identities of people around open places. This process will, in return, boost security coverage in the country. How dope can this be?
Also, GIG Logistics, a subsidiary of God is Good motors has officially launched in Ghana. The company will maintain an end-to-end logistics strategy, from drop-off to delivery services in Ghana. GIGL, however, aims to focus on the booming eCommerce sector in Ghana to penetrate the market. Congratulations!
Nigeria’s fourth-largest telecom operator, 9mobile has secured a $230 million-dollar loan from Africa Finance Corporation (AFC). The fund will be used to scale its declining growth and also offset its existing debt in Nigeria.
Finally, Kwesè TV— one of the media services of Econet Media Limited—a subsidiary of Econet Group, has been put up for sale, alongside other media arms of Econet Media. This comes sequel to its recent shutdown. The Group plans to sell off its shares across 29 units in South Africa, Botswana, Nigeria, Ghana, Dubai, Kenya, Malawi, Lesotho, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Mauritius.
