Open Virtual Radio Access Network (Open vRAN) is a combination of integrated equipment for network scalability enhancement. The RAN software element from the hardware is decoupled so that server platforms can process the RAN software. This results in the deployment of scalable and efficient networks. In a nutshell, Etisalat is transforming commercial off the shelf (COTS) hardware networks to software-based. The Open vRAN will be used to enable automation for Artificial Intelligence Algorithms.
The advantages of the Open vRAN include the quicker deployment of mobile networks, compared to traditional methods. Etisalat is ensuring network capacity augmentation and optimization within MENA. It plans to roll out Open vRAN across the MENA to achieve digital transformation and build the foundation for emerging technologies.
