The European Commission has launched the Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership initiative in Nairobi, Kenya. The initiative aims to connect innovation, technology-based incubators and accelerators in emerging markets.
This partnership aligns with the vision of President-elect Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission. She called for the European comprehensive strategy on Africa while emphasizing that a sustainable Europe investment plan will boost innovation, competitiveness and create jobs. Noting that innovation booms when people with different perspectives connect.

The Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership was launched to strengthen the partnership and also create new models that will aid the Africa-Europe cooperation in the tech ecosystem. The initiative will focus on people’s dynamics and their creativity, with aims to establish a partnership between equals.
Therefore, the Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership Initiative will foster synergy by connecting incubators and accelerators from the EU and Africa. The duo will leverage networking and technology to boost the applications of new products and services. It will also pave the way for capacity building with aims to scale access to finance for African entrepreneurs and innovators. The Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership initiative will run from January 2019 to May 2021.
