As part of Facebook’s move to link more people with broadband internet, MainOne and Facebook have partnered to roll out a metro fiber infrastructure in Edo and Ogun States, Nigeria. MainOne is building and operating up to 750 KM terrestrial fiber infrastructure in two states in Nigeria.
The public transport network will provide metro fibre connectivity to over 1,000,000 people in Benin, Abeokuta, Sagamu and 10 other towns through connecting mobile operators’ base stations, Internet Service providers, Points of presence (POPs), and public locations including schools and hospitals. The partnership will depend on MainOne’s strength as a wholesale Telecoms Infrastructure service Provider, Facebook’s investment and support from local regulatory and state authorities and deepen broadband penetration in Nigeria.
