Facebook plans to reward users for their data. The company plans to do this through its new market research app, Facebook Viewpoints. The app will reward users for taking part in surveys, tasks, and research.

Facebook intends to leverage the data and insights from Facebook Viewpoints to make perfect its products; Facebook and Instagram.

The company confirmed this via a press statement “We’ll use these insights to improve products like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Portal and Oculus, and to benefit the broader community.”

Facebook has been fined a couple of times over repeated data breaches. These issues have questioned Facebook’s reliability. But the new app will ask people to give their data for points which can be converted to cash rewards. This incentive aims to pacify all security doubts users may get.

For the app to work perfectly, users will have to provide personal information like; name, gender, Email addresses etc. The app can also pull the users’ information directly from their Facebook account.

After successful registration and login, the app will invite users to take part in programs like; surveys that award a set number of points.

Well-being survey is the first available program on the app and it takes about 15 minutes and scores 1000 points. Facebook sends $5 through PayPal to the account of users with 1000 points. The payment will be processed within 10 days while accumulated points will expire after 5 years.

Facebook said users data will not be sold to third parties. It will be used internally. Viewpoint is currently available in the US and will expand to more countries in 2020.
