According to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nation, the world’s population is expected to rise to about 9.1 billion by 2050 as against 7.4 billion in 2016. Farmers globally have been advised to increase food production by 70% to meet the needs of the larger population.
Agriculture in Africa over the years has been affected by two major factors— the climatic and the human factor. The Human factor (Land, Capital, Market, Technology, Government, etc.) plays a huge role in obstructing Agricultural productivity. Even though agriculture is the mainstay of many African countries, there is still a pressing need to mitigate risks affecting the sector and improve on our current practices.

Farmcrowdy Group, which was established in 2016, by CEO, Onyeka Akumah alongside his co-founders Ifeanyi Anazodo, Akindele Phillips, Jimoh Maiyegun, Tope Omotolani strives to bridge the gap created by the human factor in our Agriculture today. The startup created a platform that empowers rural farmers by providing them with improved seeds, farm inputs, training on modern farming techniques and provides a market for the sale of their farm produce.
The platform launched its subsidiary FarmGate in April 2019. FarmGate is a company focused on providing major processors and international buyers the opportunity to purchase commodities directly from farming clusters. They later partnered with Livestock247, an online livestock market and listing platform. All these they did to support small scale farmers.
They have now partnered with Best Foods Livestock and Poultry Limited— a livestock processing company to boost the market of Best Foods with FarmGate Africa. They will both leverage on this partnership to improve the livestock value chain within Nigeria. This partnership in essence will boost the quality of meat production and processing practices to align with international standards. This will in return eliminate the need for the importation of processed meat.
