Remember when we mentioned that Gokada—Nigeria-based on-demand motorcycle ride hailing startup, is undergoing a phoenix like process on our Big 5? Well, Gokada is back with a bang! The ride hailing startup took to its twitter page to announce its return and upgrade to Gokada 2.0.

In case you are wondering what the phoenix like process is, allow me walk you through it. On the 13th of August 2019, Fahim Saleh the co-founder and CEO of Gokada took to his Medium page to announce the shutdown of operations from the 14th of August 2019 to the 26th of August 2019. This was to enable them revamp their services and switch operations on a whole notch.

I know you are wondering why he took such a decision, I got you. Well, it happened that Fahim ordered a Gokada ride to get to third-mainland bridge where he packed his car, all in a bid to avoid traffic. He got a pilot who was supposed to meet him up within 5 minutes according to the map, but the pilot came after 15 minutes and three phone calls. All because he followed the wrong route and couldn’t use the GPS.

Consequently, a trip that was supposed to take 10-15 minutes still had them on the road after 15 minutes extra. Fahim retold how he pulled up his phone to check the map in a bid to confirm what was wrong but to his uttermost dismay, they were still 15 minutes away from the destination because the pilot took a longer route to the bridge. Long story short, he ended up taking Uber to arrive at his destination.

After the long break, the company is back with an upgrade that has gotten Nigerian talking on twitter.

The Gokada 2.0 unveiled brand new TV bikes for safer and quality movement. It also unveils waterproof helmets with Bluetooth that supports high speed, and has wind noise cancellations. Pilots will leverage this helmet to receive calls on the go, thereby making communication seamless.

Under the new initiative, all Gokada pilots are given a unique codes, boldly printed on helmets and bikes. This will enable riders seamlessly report, commend or offer general feedback about a pilot.
