Have a nice read!

Google has announced plans to install a submarine cable called Equiano. The submarine cable will boost its cloud computing infrastructure across Africa and Europe. The first phase of the project that will connect South Africa to Portugal will be completed by 2021.

One of Kenya’s biggest telcos Safaricom’ has been charged with a Ksh 115 trillion lawsuit for an alleged data leak of 11.5 million consumers. The lawsuit was filed by Benedict Kabugi, a customer who claimed that someone in possession with the leaked data approached him with it. The case is currently awaiting judgment.

Another Big news from Google! The popular Google Digital Skills for Africa has been launched in Aba, a commercial hub in the Eastern part of Nigeria. The program is aimed at providing digital skills for both job seekers and business owners in the city. Google Digital Skills is currently available in 100 communities across Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya.

African artists can now monetize their art with the help of SongRoute. SongRoute is powered by Playfre, a Nigerian-based music service.  It is a new platform for artists to sell their music online without the help of a music aggregator. This offer is opened to registered customers for free.

Finally, the National Information Technology Development Agency of Nigeria, NITDA is mandating all government officials to comply with the Framework and Guidelines for the use of official social media accounts. An ultimatum was issued out by the Federal government to public servants to hand over their official accounts after concluding their tenures. This means that all defaulters will be penalized.
