US-based telecommunication giant, Parallel Wireless, recently announced their partnership with Hotspot Network, after being shortlisted to be a part of Digital Farmers Club (DFC), Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) and NITDA Adopted Village for Smart Agriculture (NAVSA) connectivity initiatives to deliver 2G, 3G and 4G coverage across planned 2,000 villages in Nigeria.
This intervention enables the service expansion of mobile operators into local communities in Nigeria by building wireless network coverage and providing next-generation digital services to local indigenes.
Among the many deliverables of the project, the following key areas have been pointed out-
• Delivery of High-performance, distributed architecture to build a world-class, cloud-native, 5G-ready Open RAN network by ensuring that users enjoy adequate value for money and more improved innovative business solutions
• Provision of hotspot services by deploying and managing traditional RAN as a system integrator and NaaS provider,
• The launch of Digital Farmers Club (DFC) to empower youth and women in the rural areas that are involved in agribusiness, by providing them with adequate knowledge and technical skills required to thrive in their industry using modern agricultural techniques. • An ecosystem powered by off-grid solar energy
• Financial support to execute the mobile phone acquisition scheme for women and youth participants within the region.
