Huawei Invests $30,000 to Establish ICT Academy in Uganda

In the phase of innovative technologies, the need to equip students with ICT skills cannot be overemphasized. The information technology sector is the leading industry all over the world. Africa has also seen a fair share of developments as businesses adopt technologies. Huawei is a telecommunication giant that also contributes immensely to foster the development of ICT Academies.

Huawei has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Makerere University to set up the next academy in the institution. The academy will offer free certification and training to over 1000 students to prepare them for work. Students will be trained in either of the following categories: Cloud Computing, IoT, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence. It has invested the sum of $30,000 to set up the academy.

Last month, they announced plans to collaborate with 40 universities across Nigeria to ensure digital inclusion in the country. Other ICT academies are already located in South Africa and Nigeria. Huawei has been working on the continent to provide affordable, and quality networks and mobile phones. Partnering with colleges around the world to establish ICT Academies in different countries.

The academy will initially focus on public universities in Uganda, including Makerere, Kyambogo, Lira, Gulu, Muni, Busitema and Mbarara. The lecturers are currently undergoing training, and students will start registering by next month. Huawei has partnered with more than 300 universities around the world to educate more than 10000 students yearly.
