In Light of First Quarter Report, Huawei is Doing Something Right

In a press release, Huawei announced that it generated CNY179.7 billion revenue in the first quarter of 2019; a 39% increase from last year and 8% net profit margin on ICT and smart devices. So far, its Consumer Business Group has shipped 59 million smartphones and its Cloud platform is utilized by over 1 million enterprise users and developers.

They have really evolved from just producing smartphones for the Chinese market to becoming an authority, contending with the likes of Samsung, and iPhones. The 32-year old company has risen to become the second largest smartphone manufacturer, introducing research-driven innovative devices within a short time.

Huawei was among the 2400 companies that showcased their latest ICT devices at the MWC 2019. The company has been working tirelessly to roll out cost-efficient and customized ICT infrastructure and smart devices. They showcased several devices including the Y6 Pro, Y7 Prime, P30 Pro,  Nova 4e, Mate X, and also a large scale deployment of 5G network around the world. Just last month, they signed 40 commercial contracts for 5G with leading global network providers and shipped more than 70000 5G base stations around the world.

With a vision to enrich lives, they set up 15 research institutes and 36 joint innovation centres over the world to meet the evolving needs and expectations of its customers. Huawei released a series of the world’s first AI Processor in a Smartphone, AI-powered photography technology, durable mobile batteries, safety certified charging technology, and more. All these culminated into them becoming the world’s second largest smartphone retailer last year; overtaking Apple after a 7 year-long struggle.

There is an ongoing trade war between Chinese technology companies and the US government. Several other governments have also accused Huawei of using its infrastructure to intercept communications and leak out to the Chinese government. Despite the fact that Huawei was banned from the United States and Australia over security concerns, the United Kingdom recently beckoned on it to help build the new 5G network in the UK. Last month, it launched a “Cyber Security Transparency Center” in Brussels to win the appraisal of ‘worried cybersecurity leaders’ that are skeptical about its data connections and operations.

On Monday, Huawei announced that it will test run its 5G network during the African Cup of Nations for the first time in Egypt. Huawei will partner with Telecom Egypt to launch it during the football game.
