Instagram has put out a press release to announce the launch of Restrict, a new feature that protects users against cyberbullying. The feature will help protect the user’s account from unwanted interactions without the knowledge of the bully.

Cyberbullying on social media has been on the rise lately. Some people are reluctant to out rightly block bullies because of the fear of escalation outside social media. This is essential, especially for teenagers who are less likely to report online bullying for fear of being labelled weak by peers. The Restrict feature will give you the option of determining what content should fly on your Instagram handle.

The Restrict option gives you the liberty to control your online experience. The restricted user can comment on your post but the comments will be only visible to your audience when you choose to approve the comment. The restricted user would not be able to tell when you are online or know if you read their direct message.

Instagram also rolled out a new Artificial Intelligence-enabled feature that lets you know if your comment might be considered offensive before you post. This way, you have the chance to think twice and reconsider posting hurtful comments. Instagram will soon test-run the Restrict feature to give users a safer environment to interact without prejudice on social media.
