Internet connection is now fully restored to DR Congo. The repairs came 22 days after the damage of broadband submarine cables that affected the 12 Sub-Saharan Africa Countries. Israeli-based satellite and connectivity firm, Gilat Telecom and SES jointly restored internet connection.

The news on the damage of broadband undersea cable in sub-Saharan Africa came as a shock to a couple of users in the country. Citizens were unable to use internet subscription for some time. The damage reportedly affected 12 African countries, including Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Congo, and six others.

In DR Congo, the destruction of broadband cable mostly affected MTN users who encountered slow internet speed and were unable to use the internet.

However, the situation has been resolved by Gilat Telecom through the use of a 03b Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite. The telco, alongside SES’s multi-orbit network, combined the benefit of MEO low latency to change the connectivity landscape in the DRC.

Also, the high-throughput, low latency satellite and applications enabled by SES have proved to be reliable. The CEO, Gilat Telecom Dan Zanjicek, noted that the company’s service is revolutionary and will allow Mobile Network Operators to deploy services that require low latency.
