Happy new week guys!

Welcome to another edition of the Big 5 Daily where we bring you the compilation of the biggest tech news in Africa.

Enjoy!

Big news! To curb exorbitant rent, scarcity of suitable/comfortable apartments that Lagosians face, RentSmallSmall— a proptech startup has provided a seamless means for people to rent any type of apartment in Lagos. They aid prospective tenants in getting convenient apartments within 48 hours. After which the tenants can decide to pay up monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually, with an added 8% of the base rent. Customers can rent a house for as low as #50000 monthly. This is a great initiative in favor of Lagosians, don’t you agree?

Tanzanian edutainment startup, Ubongo, who won the Next Billion Edtech Prize plans to invest their $25 000 prize money to help reach children in remote areas without electricity. The platform produces localized, multi-platform educational content for children. They emerged as the winner of the Next Billion Edtech Prize during the Global Education and Skills Forum (GESF) pitch contest in Dubai. The platform’s content currently shows on free-to-air television in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa.

The STEMCafé will be sited at strategic ENYO service stations across the country. Registration costs an annual membership fee of N5000 only. StemCafé is located at ENYO service station, Olowo Eko Lekki, Lagos State.

There is also news that, SA’s ‘Skill Up’ founders Matthew Henshall and his partners have developed Room.sh, an online meeting room. Room.sh is a one-click connect video platform that combines collaborative tools like a digital whiteboard, shared text and code editors. The platform offers over 10000 hours of video time for educational tutorials and internal company meetings and runs on any device with a web browser.

Finally, the Africa Women Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum in partnership with Nedbank, has called on African women to submit for its 2019 Growth Accelerator Program. The program is a three-month training program where 25 selected females will be trained in business modelling and growth strategy to hone their skills, scale businesses and make them investment ready. 8 entrepreneurs will be given an opportunity to pitch their businesses to business tycoons, decision-makers and investors at the Pitch n Grow session.
