Madagascar’s Telma Signs $100 Million Contract with Ericsson to Boost Its Network

Telma’s CEO Patrick Pisal Hamida revealed that Telma—Madagascar Telecom company, has signed a $100 million contract with Ericsson. The contract which covers four years ( 2019-2023) will grant Telma the opportunity to boost its network and Radio Access Network (RAN).

This will help scale Telma’s network capacity and provide its customers with swift mobile connectivity. Ericsson will leverage the contract to aid Telma’s network expansion through 2,000 new cell sites. Ericsson will also support the roll-out of 4.5G services and gradually provide 5G across high-dMadagascar’s Telma Signs $100 Million Contract with Ericsson to Boost Its Networkensity population areas. The contract was signed by Patrick Pisal-Hamida and Nora Wahby, Ericsson’s West Africa Office Director.

According to Patrick Pisal Hamida, the contract aligns with Telma’s ambition to grant its users across Madagascar with affordable, top-notch and seamless broadband Internet access and communication services. He noted that Telma aims to create a network system where commuters across Madagascar can access good network connections via their phones, tablets, and laptops.

According to the report by agenceecofin, Telma’s CEO Patrick Pisal Hamida has initially countered the reforms introduced by the government to lower fibre-based broadband prices earlier in the year. The new reform will grant Telma’s competition the access to deploy fibre-optic links where there is infrastructure. Patrick countered the idea by stating that lower prices could be achieved if the excise duty is reduced.
