iSmart is Morroco’s first, 100% locally made smart charging station for electric vehicles and was recently unveiled on December 21st in the presence of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, at Rabat, Morocco.
The invention is a sustainable solution created on request for manufacturers in the automotive sector by the Green Energy Park – a research platform set up jointly by the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) – and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), with the support of the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and the Environment.
In his comments at the event, Mr. Elelamy said, “very happy and proud of this highly strategic project for our country which was carried out by Moroccan skills.
It represents one of the components of the sustainable mobility infrastructure in which Morocco is engaged under the leadership of King Mohammed VI”.
Plans are underway for bulk production of 5,000 terminals in 2022 with advanced features such as the CO2 data capture for information on regional pollution, 4G connectivity, effective process monitoring, and power ranges from 7.5 kW to 50 kW with the ability to charge a compact size vehicle in 30 minutes.
