Meet Slyd the New On-demand Scooter in Egypt

Slyd—the first on-demand electric scooter ride-hailing platform in MENA, has launched in Egypt. Through this expansion, Slyd will give Egyptians the opportunity to pick up and ride personal electric scooters at will. The scooter can be unlocked and locked through the app once picked and dropped at the designated areas.

The on-demand platform aims to enable users in Egypt to pick up and ride the scooters to their destinations, after which they can drop it off safely at the designated areas right after the trip. Users can pay for the trip through the app.

Slyd was Co-founded by Mohamed Hamza and Alaa Shalabi (CEO of Slyd and Careem former employee). They both plan to not just fill the gap left by other means of transportation, but to promote clean energy within Egypt and the MENA region.

According to the CEO of Slyd Alaa Shalabi, about 40% of ride-hailing trips are meant for distances below 4 kilometres. He said that they are making alternative means of transportation available for people in need of the service.  

The scooters are at strategic places around communities, where it will be accessed via the Slyd app. Once users locate a scooter, they can then proceed and start the trip by scanning a QR code, payment will be made upon completion. The app is available on iOS and Android devices.
