Microsoft plans to invest $1bn in Elon Musk Artificial Intelligence Lab. The lab aims to develop an AI that will replicate the human brain. This deal according to Elion Musk’s owned OpenAI, would be used to build Artificial general intelligence that will surpass the human cognitive capabilities.

In plain terms, the firms are seeking to achieve an AI similar to human consciousness that can adapt to different tasks. They will jointly build AI supercomputing technologies, which OpenAI plans commercialize via Microsoft’s cloud computing business.

Elon Musk founded OpenAI in 2015 with aims to develop an Artificial General Intelligence that can learn and master several sectors. The firm has achieved several AI milestones. Their AI beat the world’s best human players at the video game Dota 2. The firm hopes that its technology will help address climate change and other challenges that the planet is facing.

Microsoft and OpenAI said the deal would mean the AI lab developing its systems on Microsoft’s cloud computing technology, Azure. They are likely to make Microsoft the option for licensing OpenAI’s technologies.
