MTN has launched the e-SIM technology for its postpaid users in South Africa. The launch was aided by Samsung and will be made available on Samsung Galaxy Watches through the newly upgraded MTN Made for me or Sky price plans.

e-SIM is one of the latest technologies by global telco companies that allows users to electronically mount SIMs. It was first introduced by Apple for the iPhone Xs and Xs max series. The SIM is currently available in Samsung Galaxy Watch (42mm variant) for users who make use of Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ series.

The use of e-SIM will soon take over the use of plastic and nano-sim cards. Some smartphone makers now replace the sim card slot in latest phones with electronically synchronized SIMs.

The Corporate Affairs Executive for MTN in South Africa, Jacqui O’Sullivan, stated that the launch was in tandem with the company’s growth vision. She noted that MTN invested substantially in building the best mobile network in South Africa that offers customers innovation and experience.

Existing MTN postpaid users are expected to upgrade their SIMs to be able to use this feature.
