Acknowledging drivers for their excellent rides has gone beyond rating drivers to offering them tips. Although this doesn’t sound extraordinary in countries where tipping service providers is the norm— this act is not popular in Nigeria.
Nigerians might not know of the long battle drivers fought in New York for a tipping option in the Uber app as far back as 2014. At that time, other ride hail apps like Lyft was already allowing riders to tip their drivers. Uber finally consented to its drivers in 2017.
Uber announced that Nigerians will finally get the opportunity to tip off drivers whose rides they enjoy, directly through the Uber App. although tipping is not compulsory, the rider can do so at will.

How it Works
After rating the driver, you now have the option to add a complimentary tip from a range of preset amounts or you can input amount not listed. If it happens to be a shared ride, only the person that requested the ride has the option to tip the driver.
Note: Tipping is only valid when using a card for payments.
