inDriver has expanded across 10 cities in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, and South Africa. With its expansion to Durban, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria, South Africa, in Driver is now operational in 10 African cities. It is alleged that the startup has over 1000 new drivers already registered in each city.

inDriver, the New York-based ride-hailing startup that allows you set-your-own-price was founded in 2013. It leverages Real-Time Deal (RTD) model to grant its users access to set their fare for the desired destination. The startup grants its drivers the choice to either accept an offered fare, ignore the offer or bargain for a higher price. The inDriver model does not support surge pricing, unlike its competitors.

According to Rifqa Carr inDriver spokesperson, the startup designed the app to combat algorithms utilized by other on-demand ride-hailing companies to rack up prices. This algorithm considers peak hours, traffic and request history before setting a non-negotiable price for commuters.

Still speaking on the inDriver model Carr said, “Passengers using the app pay an average 20-30% less than other services. We do have a minimum fare which is region-specific but the final fare is set by both rider and driver in a real-time negotiation.”

inDriver charges new drivers 0% commission during the first six to 12 months of operation on its platform. They allow drivers the liberty to accept a ride request without running the risk of penalization. It also grants them access to view the full fare before the trip.

Although headquartered in New York, inDriver is operational in 300 cities across 26 countries globally. It has a global network of 32 million users.
