InDriver, a global ride-hailing app that allows commuters to negotiate the price of their trip has launched its services in Lagos, Nigeria. The on-demand ride-hailing startup will be competing with Uber, Bolt, Oga Taxi, and other indigenous ride-hailing startups.

Lagos makes it the fifth African country the company is expanding to. Considering it already expanded to Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Speaking on the expansion, the Chief Marketing Officer of InDriver, Egor Fedorov said Africa’s high population and her market size sprouted the Expansion.

Founded in 2013 by Arsen Tomsky, InDriver was created to help commuters and drivers in Yakutsk, Russia bargain for cab price online. The startup has since grown to become one of the 10 most downloaded ride-hailing mobile App. It currently operates in 200 cities with over 29 million users in 26 countries.

InDriver aims to bring the best of cab fares by allowing people to set their desired fare whilst booking a trip. Drivers then decide whether they want to go on the trip or not. Trips on InDriver are booked via the mobile App.

Though the ride-hailing startup has great business vision, it will encounter issues bothering on payment of its driver. This is because any ride fare bargained cannot be changed in the face of gridlock.

As a means of breaking through the ride-hailing market in Nigeria, InDriver will not be charging its new drivers commission for 6 months. However, the drivers will be charged  8% commission per ride afterward.
