The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC held a symposium to get stakeholder input on the proposed drones regulation. The symposium seeks to harmonize the regulation and usage of drones in the country.
Drone technology and its use has increased in recent times. In Africa, drones are used in aerial video recording, irrigating farmlands or delivering aids to hinterlands.
However, drones also dub Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (UAV) also offers security surveillance, shipping, and delivery, disaster management, rescue operations amidst others.
The increased usage of drones prompted the NCC to create a regulation that will guide its frequency and reach in the country.

The use of 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz spectrum bands for the deployment of drone services in Nigeria was a major regulation championed by NCC. This spectrum will enable drones to be able to address security disaster management in the country.
The Director, Spectrum Administration at NCC, Austine Nwaulune noted that the drone market is growing at a fast pace. This growth will produce a new wealth of application that makes life seamless. It is, thus, imperative for stakeholders to deliberate on the critical role and regulations that will guide drone technology.
Meanwhile, drone usage in Africa is currently being embattled by the frequency/ spectrum for operation. Drones are yet to be allocated the spectrum frequency needed to identify, command, control and offer payload transmission.
