It’s the last day of the month guys!

Excited, aren’t we? Before we step into the new month, here’s a compilation of today’s Big 5 Daily.

Let’s dive in!

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has commenced the registration of the 10-year e-passport. The new 10-year international e-passport was first at the State House in Abuja Nigeria on the 15th of January 2019. The passport will be valid for 10 years and will come with an enhanced security-self-tracking application and express centers for urgent application. The new 64-page 10-year standard e-passport will cost N70,000.

Moving on, in a bid to curb fraudulent services, the Tanzanian government has made plans to limit the number of SIM cards an individual can own. They plan to achieve this by limiting the number of SIM’s to a single line per network. They plan to begin a fresh biometric registration of all SIM card holders from May 1st to September. All information obtained from registered SIM cards will be directly linked to a subscriber’s national identification card.

Next on the Big 5, Kenyan emergency response solution RideSafe has introduced a cover that ensures that its drivers access quick and affordable medical care in the event of an accident. This they tend to achieve with the help of blockchain technology. RideSafe is an emergency tech-driven solution built on blockchain technology that provides quick and affordable medical treatment.

Orange Telco launched its first digital centre in Tunisia, as it aims to support startups with acceleration programs, early-stage investments, and training programs. The acceleration will be carried out under four strategic programs namely; the Coding School (a free tech center which offers trainings to young developers), FabLab Solidaire (a digital production workshop), Orange Fab (a startup accelerator), and Orange Digital Ventures Africa (an investment fund for financing mobile operators in the Middle East and Africa, MEA). The digital centre will also include a EUR 50 million investment fund to support fintech and edtech startups in the Middle East and Africa.

Finally, Aerobotics a South African Agritech launched its latest new product ‘Aeroview InField’ an end-to-end solution for pest and disease management in a single app. With the app; farmers will be able to detect pest and crop diseases. They will also have access to creating a scouted route; take pictures, make notes on their mobile devices; collect multiple data to detect pests and diseases, and investigate with GPS coordinates.

And that’s it on today’s episode!

Hope you had a good read?

Happy Workers Day in advance!
