The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has extended the registration of Nigerians into the National Identity Database to the US. Prior to the expansion, the program has been ongoing in South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, and the UK.

The National Identity Number (NIN) registration exercise involves the inclusion of the demographic and biometric data capture of Nigerian citizens. Nigerian citizens abroad can now register at certain addresses in the US. This extension aligns with the NIMC’s mandate to include all Nigerian citizen in the exercise.

NIMC partnered with Thebez Global Resources Ltd, Defcon Systems Limited and National eAuthentication Limited (NeAL) to achieve the worldwide registration. Through this program, Nigerians abroad will be easily identified. It will also grant them access to elections, bank account opening, land transactions, access to legal/health services, acquisition/renewal of the International Passport, Driver’s License, the ECOWAS travel document, etc.
