NITDA Introduces Smart Agro Business Platform in Nigeria

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has launched a platform dubbed Smart Agro Business in Nigeria. NITDA introduced the solution in a bid to connect stakeholders in the agricultural value chain.

Smart Agro Business will connect farmers, policymakers, financial institutions, tech enthusiasts and investors with a like interest in agribusiness. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi the Director-General of NITDA, disclosed that the platform was conceived to support a digital-driven economy. The solution also aims to attain the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals n by 2030.

In his words; “What we did is to rethink agriculture differently. We achieved this by creating a digital platform that will connect the Agric ecosystem. The platform also aims to enable the possibility of new business models. In return, generate new products and services and also create value across the Agric value chain.”

NITDA plans to leverage the Smart Agro Business platform to transform the agricultural sector. By enabling farmers to contribute to the digital economy of Nigeria, and also create jobs for unemployed youths. Also, it will train 35 graduates across the 774 LGAs in Nigeria on the use of technology to manage the entire food production processes.

The mobile app will enable farmers to improve crop yields and earn profits from the agricultural value chain. NITDA plans to integrate other smart technologies such as IoT, Artificial Intelligence, etc. to its platform.
