Safaricom has partnered with Kenya Breweries to scale its Internet of Things (IoT) arm in Kenya.
Safaricom IoT is a subsidiary of Safaricom Innovation, an arm dedicated to introducing tech innovation, such as smart robotics gadgets under the Safaricom body.
The partnership with Kenya Breweries Limited will allow the telco’s IoT arm to push its IoT agenda into the Kenyan market. This is done by connecting and enhancing refrigerators and coolers with IoT.

The new IoT cooler and refrigerators are equipped with sensors that can gather critical data and insights of consumer demands for Kenya Breweries.
In simple terms, the IoT refrigerators and coolers are connected to the internet to provide information about food temperature, settings, location, etc.
The Safaricom Chief Business Officer, Ruth Okuthe said that the solution will transmit various data to a platform that generates business insight. This insight will assist Kenya Breweries Limited to optimize the coolers.
The IoT coolers can also be tracked by distributors who will be able to evaluate its usage, location, and optimal temperature.
The launch of the new IoT gadget makes Safaricom a champion of IoT in Kenya.
There are also speculations that Safaricom will introduce IoT for Smart water metering and for tracking animals in the future.
