Chipper Cash an African fintech company that facilitates a no-fee cross-border payment has expanded to Nigeria. The San Francisco based startup has partnered with PayStack to offer P2P payment service. Chipper Cash already has a presence in Ghana and Kenya.
The startup who aims to establish a company in Lagos Nigeria has appointed Abiodun Animashaun, Co-founder of Gokada as its Country Manager. He will be working with Alicia Levine who will quit her job with Brck to become Chipper Cash’s, Chief Operating Officer.
Launched in 2018, Chipper Cash was co-founded by Serunjogi (from Uganda) and Ghanaian Maijid Moujaled to develop digital finance application across Africa. The startup has over 70,000 active users and has processed about 250,000 transactions. They also run Chipper Checkout– a merchant-focused, C2B mobile payments product that supports its no-fee mobile money business. Chipper Checkout is charged, while Chipper Cash mobile payment is free.

According to Chipper Cash CEO, Ham Serunjogi, “Nigeria is the largest economy and most populous country in Africa. Its fintech industry is one of the most advanced in Africa, up there with Kenya and South Africa.” He noted that companies intending to run fintech across borders should look to expand to Nigeria.
The startups, expansion to Nigeria is strategic as they aim to fuel their international ambition.
